Mahogany Circle Book Club was started in late 2001 by Pamela Woodruff and Njeri Buncamper. The earliest meetings were held at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Henderson, NV.
The newly formed book club attracted a steady flow of women eager to join the monthly discussions. Pamela and Njeri struggled the first year to bring form and structure to the group. Through diligence and unfailing perseverance, in 2003 the first "reading list" was agreed to by the members.
Very soon thereafter MCBC began meeting at the library, men joined the group and the topics and authors diversified. Recent selections have included : The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, Best African American Essays 2009 edited by Gerald Early, Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner, The Space Between Us by Thrity Umrigar, The Shack by William Paul Young and Wildflowers by Lyah Beth LeFlore.
